What was the challenge?
The renovation of the 1906 family home was driven by the desire to create a spacious, luxurious ensuite that could accommodate the needs of a growing family while preserving the historic character of the residence. As the family’s needs evolved, they sought to enhance their living space without sacrificing the cherished memories and the neighborhood they adored. The goal was to blend modern functionality with the timeless elegance of their beloved home, ensuring it remained a central part of their lives for years to come.
What was delivered?
This ensuite renovation, part of a strategic second-storey addition, merges luxury and energy efficiency in a retreat that respects the original architectural charm of the home. The design successfully meets the homeowners’ aspirations by incorporating a thoughtfully arranged layout that includes a discreet toilet placed behind the walk-in shower for privacy, a stand-alone soaker tub, and a double floating walnut vanity for optimal storage. To enhance comfort and ambiance, vaulted ceilings paired with a strategically placed skylight allow natural light to flood the space. The design also incorporates unique, client-inspired elements such as vertically installed Flauti Sage Gloss tiles and brushed gold accents for a touch of elegance. Heated porcelain floors and a shower bench provide consistent warmth, while eco-performance fixtures and low-e windows contribute to energy efficiency. Overcoming the challenge of integrating modern plumbing into the historic structure, the project maintained the home’s integrity, offering a refined spa-like experience that seamlessly blends timeless charm with modern convenience.
