What was the challenge?
The existing primary closet did not suit our clients’ style and storage needs; they needed more space and organization. Additionally, the outdated design lacked the modern touch and functionality that the clients desired. By renovating, they aimed to create a personalized space that enhances both the aesthetic appeal and practicality of their home.
What was delivered?
The design project involved transforming an extra bedroom adjacent to the primary bedroom into a custom dream closet for the client. The original access from the hallway was removed, creating a seamless extension of the primary suite. Upon entering the suite, a former lounge area was reimagined as an elegant entrance featuring a pedestal table and chandelier, providing access to the balcony and a double-sided fireplace leading to the bedroom area. This entrance also connects to the newly added morning bar and closet doorway. The closet’s soft color palette of creamy whites and blush tones flows into the entrance and bedroom, where slate greys and taupes were introduced. The closet cabinetry, designed along the walls from floor to ceiling, keeps the room’s center open and airy, allowing space for a blush-toned mohair ottoman. Most compartments are closed to maintain visual tranquility, with a few open shelves for displaying bags and shoes. A vanity was created beneath the window, complete with a custom hair tool drawer with integrated power.
The monochromatic palette emphasizes texture and form, with elements like wool carpet, grasscloth wallpaper, reeded drawer fronts, and a hand-carved banana-bark chandelier. Beveled-mirror door fronts add practicality and glamour, reflecting natural light to enhance the room’s spacious feel. The unlacquered brass hardware offers a delicate contrast to the creamy cabinets, its jewelry-like details complementing the beaded-shaker doorfronts. The French-inspired floral fabric on the Roman shade and blush ottoman infuse a subtle feminine flair, aligning with the client’s desired atmosphere. To maximize the closet’s lifespan and organization, a professional organizer assessed the client’s wardrobe, leading to a custom cabinetry layout that accommodates all items and allows for future growth. To ensure cohesion between the closet and primary bedroom while maintaining its independence, cabinetry was extended into the bedroom entrance, adding storage and a practical morning bar with a coffee machine and beverage fridge.
