Modern Magic Creates Bathroom Bliss

What was the challenge?

The homeowners in London, Ontario, embarked on a renovation project to transform their colonial-style Ensuite into a modern and inviting retreat. The original bathroom, while functional, lacked the aesthetic appeal and comfort desired for a relaxing space. With the aspiration to create a sanctuary that offered breathtaking views and a more soothing environment, the homeowners sought to revamp the space to reflect contemporary design sensibilities while still embracing the historical charm of their century-old home. This renovation was part of a broader effort to modernize the interior of their historic residence while maintaining its exterior charm.

What was delivered?

The renovation, a collaboration with New Wave Design, involved several key changes to enhance both functionality and aesthetics. The bathroom’s layout was reimagined by relocating the toilet and bidet to a newly created water closet, featuring a TOTO wall-mounted washlet, thus allowing the striking Slik Evoque freestanding soaker tub to become the focal point. Custom walnut millwork was crafted to frame the serene garden views, and a floating vanity with six spacious drawers was installed to provide ample storage and maintain a clutter-free appearance. The integration of black marbled tiles throughout, combined with modern elements like Fittes flush mount vents and Z-Channel trim, contributed to a seamless and sophisticated look. Rich walnut tones and dark tiles were contrasted with white and gold accents, such as Rubinet Satin Gold plumbing fixtures, adding elegance and luxury to the space. The renovation also involved raising the tub deck to offer picturesque garden views and engineering a new floor system to support the substantial weight of the new tub. By blending modern design elements with historical details like plaster crown moulding, the project achieved a harmonious balance, transforming the Ensuite into a luxurious and blissful retreat while respecting the home’s heritage.
