What was the challenge?

The primary motivation for the renovation was to transform an outdated 1960s structure in downtown Toronto into a functional and contemporary home that aligns with our client’s modern and busy lifestyle. The existing design, characterized by its closed and cramped spaces, was no longer suitable for today’s trendy housing market. The client sought a major upgrade to maximize the 2600 square feet available, creating a space that was not only practical but also aesthetically pleasing. The renovation aimed to enhance the home’s overall appeal, making it a welcoming and bright environment that seamlessly integrates with the natural surroundings.

What was delivered?

The renovation involved a comprehensive makeover of the home, focusing on creating an open-concept layout by removing the walls between the kitchen and living room, thus allowing natural light to flood the space. An 8-foot extension to the rear of the home provided additional room across all three levels, including a new family room on the main floor with a stunning backyard view. The top floor now features larger bedrooms, each equipped with a walk-in closet, while the basement has been upgraded with a new walk-out entrance for added privacy and comfort. The design incorporated modern elements such as white oak herringbone flooring, elegant LED lighting, and stylish custom shower units. By using neutral and natural tones, the renovation achieved a minimalistic yet cozy atmosphere, effectively blending indoor and outdoor spaces. The inclusion of large windows, a glass French double door, and a Juliet balcony further enhanced the home’s integration with its environment, making it a contemporary haven for its occupants.
