What was the challenge?
The homeowner decided to renovate because the property, originally a large mansion, had been divided into three separate units many years ago. This conversion resulted in a layout that was confusing, congested, and poorly planned. Located in the desirable Prince Edward County, the renovation involved extensive interior demolition to reconfigure rooms and create two kitchens—one on each floor—with updated finishes. Special attention was given to the fireplace and staircase areas, while also refreshing the exterior at the back of the home, aiming to enhance both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
What was delivered?
Significant modifications in this project included the transformation of the upstairs kitchen into a bedroom and lounge area, along with the addition of a new bathroom. A new kitchen design was implemented on the main floor, featuring modern countertops while retaining the existing cabinets. Additionally, custom stairs and railings were installed, and a spacious, airy family/living room was incorporated into the main area. Great attention was given to the windows, ensuring that the design allowed for plenty of natural light to create a seamless blend between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Today, this home offers a luxurious getaway ambiance, reminiscent of a resort. The expansive main living area, now featuring an open-concept kitchen, lounge zone, and a library with cozy reading nooks, has become a prime destination. The finishes are contemporary, complemented by natural hues inspired by the setting, including blues and woodsy tones. Enhancements to the deck further expand the living space, connecting the entire home into a true oasis, ideal for this family’s love of entertaining and spending quality time together. The newly designed kitchen boasts a massive 54-inch-wide countertop with an almost 30-inch overhang. Preserving the fireplace serves as a centerpiece, adding charm to the space. The floor plan has been completely redefined to create distinguished spaces that celebrate every aspect of their beloved living areas.
