What was the challenge?
The homeowners wanted a kitchen that worked better for their daily lives and reflected their long-term vision for the home. Their goal was to renovate once and do it right by creating a space that would significantly improve functionality, workflow, and storage while preserving the character of their 115-year-old Winnipeg home. They also recognized the opportunity to update aging electrical and plumbing systems to meet current code requirements, ensuring the kitchen would remain beautiful, efficient, and enjoyable for years to come.
What was delivered?
The Cottage Blue Kitchen renovation is a striking transformation that successfully blends heritage charm with modern functionality. Anchored by bold Labrador Blue cabinetry, palm leaf wallpaper, and luxurious Maldives Quartzite countertops, the design creates a distinctive and highly personalized aesthetic. Custom stained red oak accents, recreated heritage trim details, a vintage stained-glass chandelier, and ceramic cabinet knobs pay homage to the home’s 115-year history, while contemporary fixtures bring balance and sophistication. Functionality was enhanced by relocating key work zones, including the sink and range, to improve workflow and create a more cohesive connection with adjacent living spaces. Storage was maximized through stacked upper cabinetry that takes full advantage of the home’s 111-inch ceilings, along with thoughtfully integrated features such as pantry cabinetry, custom radiator housing, and a dedicated robot vacuum space. Despite the challenges of renovating a century-old home, the project successfully preserved its historic character while delivering a highly efficient, modern kitchen tailored to the homeowners’ needs.
