The homeowners of this Union Bay property undertook a whole-house renovation to better suit their lifestyle goals, with a strong focus on aging in place and hosting family gatherings. The original home was dated and awkwardly laid out, making it difficult to enjoy both the interior and the surrounding natural beauty. The clients wanted a space that emphasized comfort, accessibility, and sustainability while also fostering social connections. By moving the primary bedroom to another area of the main floor, they were able to transform its former location into a vibrant games room designed for entertaining and spending time with loved ones.

The Coastal Eyrie Games Room now serves as a central hub for relaxation and socializing, seamlessly linking the kitchen, living room, and outdoor kitchen through strategic placement, sliding doors, and a spacious deck. A butterfly roofline, custom windows, and natural finishes maximize 360-degree ocean and forest views while filling the room with light. Inside, rustic ledge stone, fir wood details, and carefully selected furnishings balance warmth with modern appeal. The space features a pool table, lounge area, games tables, and a snack and beverage bar, all thoughtfully designed to make the most of the home’s non-standard footprint. With advanced energy-efficient systems, sustainable use of felled on-site fir trees, and low-impact construction methods to protect the sensitive coastal and cultural landscape, this renovation not only created a functional and beautiful gathering space but also respected the environment and the site’s heritage.
