What was the challenge?

After living in the home for a few years, the space plan wasn’t functional for this young family. By opening up the main living area/kitchen and reworking the basement levels to create a new mudroom, laundry room, bedroom and bathroom we were able to create a more contemporary feel to the space that fit our clients needs and wants. Before the renovation, there were a lot of dark beige tones, traditional oak millwork and orange fireplace brick throughout the home. During the selection process, we chose whites and grays to not only emphasize the scale of the rooms but also highlight the transformational value once the renovation was complete. Due to the age of the home, they had a third party come in and remove all asbestos from the property to ensure home is safe to live in for years to come.

What was delivered?

The project successfully completed the goal of lightening up the space and creating a functional home which was key for the homeowner. By removing a wall from the the living room / dining room / kitchen to open up the space, we were able to add an island for some much needed extra counter space and storage. Removing the wall also helped bring natural light through both the front and back of the home to create a larger feeling main floor. The juxtaposition of the white and black cabinets playing off the warm LVP flooring, gives the older home a contemporary feel. Adding black upper cabinets with glass fronts gives ties in the dark color while giving the illusion of appearing lighter.
