Douglasdale – Kitchen Renovation

What was the challenge?

The homeowners undertook this renovation to modernize a dated and awkwardly configured kitchen while creating a bold yet highly marketable design with strong resale appeal. The existing space was dominated by excessive oak finishes, unconventional angles, and a raised octagon-shaped island with a matching ceiling feature that made the kitchen feel visually overwhelming and outdated. As the property was being renovated for resale, the primary objective was to maximize return on investment by creating a brighter, more functional, and contemporary space that would appeal to the young families commonly found in the surrounding neighbourhood.

What was delivered?

This renovation completely transformed the kitchen by replacing the original octagon-shaped raised island with a sleek, rectangular single-level island that significantly increased prep space, seating capacity, and overall openness. The removal of the framed angled pantry eliminated the awkward geometry that dated the space, allowing for the addition of a stylish side bar and a built-in full-height pantry that improved both storage and visual balance. The appliance layout was reconfigured to establish an efficient working triangle, greatly enhancing daily functionality. Bold black shaker cabinetry paired with contrasting lighter finishes, large-format backsplash tile, updated pendant lighting, and a mix of gold and black fixtures created a sophisticated aesthetic while remaining within budget.
