What was the challenge?

Primary goal of this project was to modernize the kitchen, improve functionality, and create greater sightlines that were now open from Stage 1 renovation through to their backyard river views. The design considered their specific needs, such as maintaining the eat-in area and bar, preserving the interesting details they had grown accustomed to, while also managing to create a larger kitchen footprint without adding physical space by reconfiguring existing areas and stealing space from the hallway.

What was delivered?

This project stands out by incorporating the clients’ own style rather than conforming to popular modern aesthetic. They aimed to bring a natural feel to the finished product while being conscious of environmental waste. The existing cabinets were preserved and reused, and the countertops were chosen to resemble natural stone. The clients personalized the space with color, using blue accents inspired by decorative plates from their travels. They focused on creating a cohesive and natural feel throughout, with features like natural maple cabinets to match the refinished maple floor, painted cabinets in Ocean Reef, and rugged concrete countertops. Additional features include natural maple beams collected from their own property and a wider cut-out through the stairs to provide better views from the kitchen.
