What was the challenge?
The homeowners wanted to upgrade and enhance all areas of their home while increasing its square footage. Their goal was to transform an outdated, small space into a modern, timeless home that reflects their personalities and meets their lifestyle needs. They envisioned a design that would feel open and inviting, incorporate mid-century modern aesthetics, and provide functional spaces such as a luxurious ensuite bathroom and a dedicated home office—all while staying within their budget.
What was delivered?
The renovation involved demolishing most of the original 900 sq. ft., 1.5-storey structure and expanding it to 1,386 sq. ft. The main floor now features an open-concept layout with custom walnut cabinetry, a wood slat accent wall, and warm hardwood flooring. A cantilevered second-storey extension created a spacious master suite with a luxurious ensuite and a home office. The design blends modern elements with A-frame cottage-inspired charm, incorporating large windows for natural light and bold color-drenching accents. Energy efficiency was improved with spray foam insulation, new HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and upgraded windows and doors. Despite challenges like limited property width and the absence of a basement, creative solutions such as a compact utility closet under the stairs ensured functionality without sacrificing living space.
