What was the challenge?

This family sought to modernize, add personality, improve function, and increase the energy efficiency to their home. The bathroom still in its original built condition, needed rejuvenation to keep pace with the rest of the home. The bathroom remains at the center of the main living space and serves not only the family’s day to day needs but also those of their frequent guests.

The project was challenging from the start as timelines and budgets were squeezed by the necessity of asbestos remediation to keep everyone safe for both the short and long term. To save on costs, the family moved out while both bathrooms were renovated at the same time and returned to find a modern farmhouse aesthetic they loved!

What was delivered?

A classic black-and-white color scheme was displayed in a playful manner throughout the new bathroom. The floor was clad in a polka-dotted, mosaic tile which was echoed by the black niche centering the subway tile tub surround. Oak, seen throughout the rest of the house, was used to frame the large vanity mirror and add some much-needed storage in the form of open shelving. Chrome fixtures match those seen in the kitchen and another main-floor bathroom. White shaker-style millwork and quartz countertops kept the clean look consistent.

New plumbing fixtures, a new window, and insulation upgrades led to increased energy efficiencies. The drainage was completely redone to accommodate a new bathtub and also to prepare for the addition of a much-needed 3rd bathroom in the basement in the future. Copper plumbing pipes and aluminum wiring were replaced throughout to ensure that the family would be safe for years to come in their forever home.
