What was the challenge?
The owners were eager to breathe new life into their aging property. They envisioned modernizing the curb appeal to enhance the home’s aesthetic and increase its market value. Additionally, by doubling the square footage, they aimed to create a more spacious and comfortable living environment for their growing family. Adding a two-car garage was also a priority, as it would provide much-needed storage space and protect their vehicles from the elements.
What was delivered?
This renovation honors the existing 1950’s mid-century façade by incorporating upgraded features modernized for today’s conveniences. While maintaining the home’s original footprint presented site limitations, it also offered unexpected opportunities to preserve traditional elements and inspired a more creative, out-of-the-box approach to building. Utilizing the existing footprint led to a unique feature with the garage, transforming a single-car space into a dual-car garage through the installation of a 12′ hydraulic car lift, allowing a car to be showcased both from the curb and from inside a bedroom—an uncommon sight. The exterior’s sleek, linear paneling preserves the mid-century appearance, and the integration of wood elements from the inside out resulted in a truly one-of-a-kind house. A significant challenge was sourcing materials for the property’s cladding, as the side yard setbacks and lot topography necessitated the use of scaffolding and manual handling of materials, as machine access was not possible.
