What was the challenge?

The clients struggled with the layout of their existing basement. It was neither functional nor beautiful. They wanted to create a multi-functional space that included a media room for watching movies, a laundry room/mudroom, a powder room and a flex-room/playroom to contain their daughters toys. They needed the space to be functional and cohesive with the rest of the home.

What was delivered?

The end result is a beautiful and functional space that exceeded the clients expectations. The most unique design element of the basement is the addition of fabric on the walls with LED strips in between the panels. The mission was to create a movie theatre feel to the media room. They even extended the dark paint colour to the ceiling to make it feel like you are cocooning. High efficiency windows were added throughout the house to eliminate any drafts. The fabric panels were even added to the pocket doors that block off the flex area/toy room. The clients really liked how
they could have the pocket doors open to the toy area when their daughter was downstairs playing. When company
comes over, they simply close the pocket doors and the messy room is out of sight. A great design solution.

The floor to ceiling tiles in the powder room add huge design impact to a very small space. The laundry room doubles as a mudroom and a secondary entrance for the family. This design solution makes this area one of the hardest working areas in the house. All in all, these clients couldn’t be happier with their new basement and the results truly speak for themselves.
