What was the challenge?

The goal of this renovation was to transform a dark, underutilized basement into a “Personal Pub:” an inviting, fun-forward space that encourages multiple generations to hang out at home.

What was delivered?

Distinctly playful, this vibrant and much-loved, lower-level entertainment hub is where multiple generations can (and do) hang out together sharing fine vintages, a challenging game of billiards, and the latest blockbuster movie or sports extravaganza. A pandemic-busting retreat to keep everyone engaged. The room’s visual highlight is a three-sided, temperature/humidity-controlled beverage display that separates bar and billiards areas. Comprised of three angled, vertical racks (one for European wines, one for North American vintages, a third for rosés and sparkling wines) plus two shelves showcasing client’s whiskey collection plus sakés and other Asian beverages.

Blue-on-blue media lounge features high-gloss MDF panels with metallic finish, cascading LED strip lights, and comfy sectional seating for elegant minimalism. The powder-room’s custom, half-curved mirror and wall-sconce lighting add unanticipated drama to the compact space. The original, cramped exercise studio was re-invented as billiards area that brings owner fond memories of breaking-the-rack with his father. The new pool-table’s blue felt creates visual continuity with other spaces. Its hard to believe this is the same basement they had once owned. Westblue Construction Ltd. did an excellent job transforming the space into a one of a kind hangout hub.
