What was the challenge?
The clients, who loved entertaining friends, had longed for a space they could use year-round. After COVID restrictions limited their ability to gather indoors, they knew it was time to build something special. In designing their new outdoor living space, they wanted the flexibility to enjoy sunny days as much as rainy ones, so features like the motorized louvered roof and screens were musts to adapt to changing seasons.
What was delivered?
The renovation transformed the deck between their house and garage into a four-season space they would enjoy spending time in. Offering them privacy, protection from the elements, and style, it’s now a cozy extension of their home. They incorporated a pergola into the design of the louvered roof to enhance the look of the otherwise basic existing exterior, allowing them to incorporate elements like overhead heaters and strip lighting.
A beautiful gas fireplace with stone was framed perfectly by two frosted glass panels to allow natural light through whilst maintaining privacy from the neighbors. Together, the louvered roof, gas fireplace, two overhead heaters, and motorized screens allow the space to be efficiently heated or cooled depending on the season. The new space comfortably seats 8 by the fire and 3 three more at their new bar top dining area which overlooks the lower
patio. Outdoor cabinets offer storage and utility, while glass railings serve to keep their park views visible from all areas.
Additionally, the homeowner wanted the house to be wheelchair accessible from the back lane, but it was impossible given the existing shape of the deck. Fearing they would have to re-build or disrupt their landscape below, they were pleased to hear that the team could extend the deck surface and railing to create a barrier free entry.
