What was the challenge?

This upper-floow condominium in Oakville was in much need of an interior makeover. The client’s main requirement was to completely upgrade, redesign and brighten up the dated living space to fit their lifestyle.

One of the main problems faced during the renovation was the booking of the service elevator for deliveries. Due to safety rules at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, a maximum of 2 people were allowed in the elevator at any given time, making it more difficult to bring in heavy materials, supplies, and equipment. The team also needed to be considerate of the tenants living in the building and work as quickly and quietly as possible. The limited budget and timeframe had also compelled the design team to work under pressure but successfully meet the deadlines on time.

What was delivered?

To achieve a modern, contemporary look, a glass railing replaced the white-painted steel railing between the dining and family room for more transparency, seamlessly redesigning the condo layout into one large space. Paint colours, tile selections, cabinet colours, and hardwood flooring colours were all carefully selected by the design team to achieve openness and brightness in the entire condo. The contemporary look of the plumbing fixtures selected complimented the overall design of the space. A custom-designed black and white quartz front foyer set in a chevron pattern along with a tiled border gave the condo a brilliant and welcoming visual.

A key factor in effectively achieving the open-concept layout was to eliminate the wall between the kitchen and dining area. An island counter was placed to gently divide the kitchen while keeping the layout breathable and maintaining natural flow throughout the apartment. In return, this gave the kitchen a spacious effect with an unobstructed view of the dining room and family room and a breathtaking panoramic outdoor view. All appliances were replaced and brought up to date, including a built-in beverage cooler. A stunning black and white quartz backsplash with a matching countertop with a double-ended waterfall feature, white cabinetry, and light hardwood flooring now added a completely modern finish to the kitchen. The lighting throughout the condo was given a complete face-lift, incorporating modern-style pot lights with dimmers. As a result, this condominium was transformed into a modern living space that is highly functional and aesthetically appealing, successfully achieving the client’s goal.
