What was the challenge?

The renovation of this luxury vacation condo was driven by the need to accommodate the growing family of a world-champion poker star. With the family’s expansion, there arose a necessity to add an additional room specifically for the children. Beyond just adding space, the aim was to significantly enhance the functionality and aesthetics of the layout, particularly in the kitchen, dining, and living areas. The original design, which featured inefficient layouts and outdated dark corridors, did not capitalize on the stunning 270-degree views of the mountains and ocean. Therefore, a transformation was imperative to unlock the potential of the space and create a harmonious living environment that catered to both the family’s needs and the breathtaking surroundings.

What was delivered?

The renovation project involved an extensive makeover of the 47th-floor condo situated in a high-end building with an attached hotel. The construction team undertook the challenging task of disassembling the existing structure down to the studs, working within the constraints of restricted hours-of-use elevators and Strata Bylaw noise restrictions. The redesign included redrawing the floor plan to introduce a third bedroom by converting the kitchen into a more efficient galley-style layout, which not only created additional living space but also opened up the kitchen, dining, and living areas to the panoramic views. The design embraced a dark and mysterious theme, reflective of the client’s poker career, with moody textures, dark wood, and matte finishes accented by black and gold metallic trims. The project also incorporated creative elements such as seamless flush-mounted doors and switches, and imported European materials, while cleverly integrating the existing structural columns into the design with LED-lit poker card features. This renovation not only enhanced the condo’s functionality but also elevated its aesthetic appeal, transforming it into a sleek and sophisticated sanctuary atop Vancouver’s skyline.
