What was the challenge?
The primary motivation for renovating this kitchen is to transform it from its current dilapidated state into an energy-efficient, functional, and contemporary space that seamlessly blends with the newly remodeled home.
What was delivered?
Transforming this 1960s kitchen from a traditional layout into a contemporary, functional space required both vision and skill, as the original kitchen was closed off and compacted by walls, limiting the natural flow of energy. The homeowner aimed to open up the space to meet modern living standards, incorporating all-new panel-ready appliances, energy-efficient windows, updated lighting, and a honed natural stone waterfall island with a matching backsplash behind the stove. By breaking down the walls to create an open-concept layout, the kitchen was seamlessly connected to the rest of the main floor. An 8-foot addition to the rear of the house allowed for the inclusion of a family room, enhancing the space for casual gatherings. The home’s age meant no elements could be salvaged, necessitating leveling the floors and ceiling and updating structural elements to meet current codes. Despite these challenges, the homeowner remained determined to achieve the desired results within budget. The transformation addressed concerns with outdated appliances, flooring, and fixtures, replacing the cramped kitchen with a bright, spacious area. The open-concept layout, white cabinetry, neutral tones with gold fittings, and the practical waterfall island all contributed to a visually clean, contemporary, and luxurious kitchen that now breathes new life into the entire home.
