What was the challenge?

The renovation of the ensuite bathroom was driven by the homeowners’ desire to personalize their space to meet their evolving needs, reflecting their intention to make this their forever home. After 16 years of affection for the room, they envisioned transforming it into a modern sanctuary that not only met their practical requirements but also provided a luxurious retreat. This motivation stemmed from a deep-seated desire to create an environment that would offer a place of relaxation and a reprieve from the daily grind. The homeowners aimed to imbue the space with contemporary aesthetics and conveniences, creating a personalized oasis that would serve them well into the future.

What was delivered?

The ambitious project involved a complete overhaul of the bathroom, stripping it down to a bare concrete shell to provide a blank canvas for re-imagining the space. The centerpiece of the new design is a six-foot tub with a heated backrest and integrated, programmable LED lighting, delivering an indulgent spa experience at home. Wall-mounted faucets were strategically centered to ensure comfort for both bathers, while an elevated plinth not only accommodated necessary drainage adjustments but also enhanced the sense of hotel-inspired luxury.

A dramatic feature wall, crafted from four book-matched porcelain tiles, is accentuated by floor-to-ceiling fluted millwork, creating a striking visual contrast with the rustic-stone tiles reminiscent of a Mediterranean grotto. The design boasts a dual-sink floating vanity with waterfall edges, champagne-gold faucets, and a custom backlit mirror that glows subtly. A frameless-glass shower echoes the tile patterns of the tub area and includes a cantilevered floating bench, ensuring both style and functionality. The integration of heated towel racks and floors further enhances comfort, while design elements ensure accessibility, meeting Vancouver’s wheelchair requirements, and addressing structural challenges with innovative solutions. This thoughtful renovation balances aesthetic appeal with functional design, creating a sophisticated retreat tailored to the homeowners’ vision.
