Professional couple, moved to Vancouver Island for improved lifestyle. Determined that adding separate dwelling to aging parent’s home best solution.

What was delivered?

Unique situation of designing/building for repeat client’s adult son and wife Produced economical, separate suite for them, while allowing him an independent life Removed carport from existing house, and built attached self-contained unit Took full advantage of oceanfront view with 2-storey, 1-bedroom, 1 bathroom, with loft Working within height restrictions, unique roof line maintains view corridor Extra interior height gives spacious look/feel Critical that every cubic inch considered, paid attention to every detail He’s a chef, so kitchen was key He’s tall – we raised counter heights in kitchen, bathrooms Her request – a spa-like bathroom Seamlessly integrated exterior finishes with existing Glass railings, with black metal posts utilized in interior/exterior, for unobstructed views Incorporated space-saving winders on staircase, no landing Den off front-entry, potentially home-office Powder room incorporates laundry Upstairs, the spa-like bathroom boasts vanity, ‘Monaco’ free-standing tub, and frameless shower Finishes are elegant, refreshing, and practical Wide plank, oak engineered hardwood flooring, large-format tile in bathroom Ductless, heat-pump system Energy-efficient KitchenAid appliances, including gas range Higher kitchen window for privacy, sunlight Clerestory windows bring in more natural light Touched as little of existing house as possible, patched in roofing Created a separate home, in very small space, very tight budget
