What was the challenge?

Our clients enjoyed living in a great downtown neighbourhood, but it was time to take their condo from slightly drab to totally fab. Although their condo was already quite spacious with 3 bedrooms, 3 baths and a den, and an area of almost 3000 square feet, we saw that the rooms could be configured better to make the unit look even more expansive and improve its functionality for this growing young family.

What was delivered?

We removed some walls to create an open-concept space that merged kitchen, dining and living areas while maintaining privacy for the bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen was completely renovated with new cabinetry, high-end appliances, and a beautifully practical island/breakfast bar.

Our clients wanted to enjoy the luxury spa experience in the comfort of home. We removed more walls to combine two smaller bathrooms into one large, fully upgraded ensuite with double vanity and an extra-wide shower enclosure opposite.

New millwork was added throughout the home to create a sleek modern aesthetic and to make the main rooms much more functional. In addition to fine-crafting new cabinetry for the kitchen, we built a long floating credenza along the interior living area wall to provide extra hidden storage space. Its surface could be used either for displaying artwork and personal mementos, or for supporting a large screen TV. The unit’s low profile would also allow a screen to be wall mounted above it at a comfortable viewing height. We had to blend round support pillars and boxed, enclosed mechanicals inconspicuously into the design and otherwise work within the confines of the condo, such as standard ceiling height, plumbing and electrical considerations. We wanted to take full advantage of the cityscape views and abundant natural light that the corner unit’s large-paned almost floor-to ceiling windows afforded.

By removing walls and reconfiguring the interior space, the condo’s traffic flow, sight lines and functionality were dramatically enhanced. Dressing up the entrance hallway made a warmer welcome for guests and beckoned them into the newly opened-up living space. Adjusting the floor plan of the master bedroom provided the space for us to add a walk-in closet.
