The Homeowners had purchased their condo 15 years ago. They loved the space and location and chose to modernize the space rather than move away. They wanted to update their home into a relaxing oasis where they could easily entertain their guest. The condo had lots of dead space that was simply drywalled for the sake of speeding up the finishing process. Taking the entire suite down to the studs allowed these wasted areas to be reclaimed for storage and/or to add more usable square footage for day-to-day living.
What was delivered?
The desire for a minimalist, uncluttered aesthetic droves all design decisions. The muted colour palette allows for the visual focus to be on the suite’s stunning views including the park and whimsical structures on Granville Island. Soft white walls create an art gallery ambiance and an ideal backdrop to showcase the client’s artwork. Structural columns in the living room and primary-suite were reframed to reclaim bonus-space on all sides making the rooms feel airier and lighter. Vertical-grain, walnut cabinetry (including the island’s base) was used throughout, giving a pleasing sense of continuity/flow within the condo’s footprint. White TAJ Mahal quartzite backsplash/counters add elegant contrast in the kitchen and ensuite. The second bedroom is now redesigned as a comfortable home office that can double as a guest room when necessary.
