What was the challenge?

To change the dated layout to an open-concept plan with extreme natural lighting to fit the homeowner’s modern lifestyle.

What was delivered?

With the given budget and skillful planning, our design-team replaced the old-fashioned doors and small windows with ground-to-ceiling height linear glass windows on the corner and side section of the house, as well as adding 2 skylights, successfully attaining the goal. The previously enclosed staircase situated in the centre of the home was a visual and physical block obstructing a natural flow and light on the 2nd floor. Without relocating the staircase, the solution was to remove the load bearing wall and replace it with glass railings giving the 2nd floor an immediate transparent and spacious effect with a spectacular focal point. This design idea was crucial in forming the open-concept layout connecting the family room to the kitchen. A state-of-the-art Nana Wall system was installed at the rear of the residence by removing the back wall with structural lentils. This flooded the residence with absolute sunlight extending the indoor and outdoor spaces. Some challenges faced were working in a limited space where parking space was tight, high-traffic area made deliveries and installations difficult. We had to use cranes to bring in custom sized quartz. A hydraulic boom lift was needed to complete all soffit work and exterior ACM paneling.
