What was the challenge?

The young family was thrilled to learn that her childhood home had been passed down to them. However, upon arrival, they quickly realized that the interior was outdated and in need of an update. The refreshed look they envisioned would require a complete overhaul of the dysfunctional floorplan.

Their main priority was to fix the hazardous stairs and ensure that they met current code. With safety as a top concern, they enlisted the help of My House Design/Build Team to make the necessary changes.

In addition to the interior updates, the young family was excited to give their childhood home a new modern exterior. They wanted to maintain the charm and character of the original house while adding their personal touch. With a clear vision and the right team in place, they were confident that they could create a beautiful and functional space for their family to enjoy for years to come.

What was delivered?

The small and outdated kitchen has been recreated into an efficient and open-concept space with plenty of storage. In addition, the lower floor layout has been revived to accommodate a recreational room, home office and guest bathroom. The front entry-stairs, which were previously hazardous, have now been replaced and brought up to code, ensuring the safety of all family members and guests.

Moreover, the home boasts unique arched millwork around the coffee-station and molding application on the living and dining feature-wall, which not only looks custom but also makes a dramatic statement. The bright white color-palette with bold black accents creates a fresh and modern aesthetic, while the White Ash luxury vinyl-plank flooring throughout looks just like hardwood. The white-oak black-metal staircase perfectly compliments the vinyl-flooring and transforms the space.

The kitchen features full-height, soft-grey shaker kitchen-cabinets with integrated appliances, white veined quartz-countertop, glossy vertical offset backsplash-tile, and a hammered-metal dining pendant-light, all of which add texture and dimension. The wood-burning fireplace has been replaced with a Direct-vent gas-fireplace, and the hazardous stairs have been rebuilt to meet code. Other features of the home include EnergyStar-rated Vinyl Tek windows and patio doors, high-efficiency Fisher Paykel appliances, antimicrobial quartz-countertops, filtered instant hot/cold water-dispenser, and dual-flush comfort-height toilets. Overall, the renovation has achieved an outstanding transformation, providing the family with a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing home.
